Agelgil is a pioneering force at the forefront of agricultural waste recycling, plastic reduction and the fight against deforestation.
Co-founded by Afomia Andualem, Agelgil crafts eco-packaging and tableware made from agricultural by-products (like wheat and rice straw) and water hyacinth, an invasive plant. By repurposing these wasteful sources into opportunity, Agelgil bolsters farmers' income, while supporting local fishing and tourism along the way.
But the innovation doesn't end there! Every bit of waste from Agelgil's manufacturing process is given a new lease of life, transformed into fertilizer sold back to local farmers. Their groundbreaking approach and design has earned Afomia and her team the 2022 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation.
