Ethiopia’s Startup Act aims to establish a National Startup Council and an Innovation Fund. If passed, this will make it easier to launch, grow and scale startups.
The Fund will be used to issue Startup Scholarships, cover Intellectual Property Fees, incentivize key players in the ecosystem such as Incubators and Accelerators, and even sub-in employees that are on “startup leave”.
The Act was first drafted in 2020 and will have to run through the Ministry of Innovation and Technology and other bodies after the final draft is presented to parliament.
